the letter is in reaction to the lineup changes in Avengers #16, which apparently came out in May 1965. there was quite a delay on letter in those days, so it was probably printed much later that year. iirc there was a ‘new avengers’ vs ‘original avengers’ debate raging in the letter columns for a good while, well into Roy Thomas’ long run
