I can see why the beginning/arctic scene was cut... it's quite dark/heavy - especially for kids and the "mainstream" audience they're targeting. It will, however, make a great DVD extra or new DVD cut of the film. I saw the movie again tonight and probably enjoyed it even more than the first time... the first 2/3 especially are superb.
