It might be a silly thing to obsess about, but Atom's hair just kills me. Urasawa can fucking draw some hair.

@Nathan: I bought the first two volumes of 20CB at the same time as the two newest Pluto books :) I'm starting v1 on the commute home.

@Alex Scott: That's neat! I saw the bit about him being sold into circus slavery and just took it in stride.

A Pinocchio who never grows up is really interesting. It puts me in mind of the old(?) Toys-R-Us theme song. "I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys-R-Us kid." Certain kids don't want to grow up and revel in their age. Others can't wait to be grown-ups and kind of act above their age, if that makes sense.

@Jura: Atom's little sister Uran shows up in volume 3 and she's adorable. Urasawa draws great kids.

What's also interesting is how this all relates to Atom's origin. Atom is built specifically to replace a real boy, but is rejected because he's incapable of the one thing almost every real boy does: growing up. In a way, it's like Pinocchio mixed with a little bit of Frankenstein. By that limited edition of personhood, Atom is clearly a failure; but as the original post pointed out, he's found plenty of other ways of being "human" that don't involve biology.

(vol. 3 is as far as I've read, by the way)
